With Dermot Murnaghan and Natasha Kaplinsky both leaving the BBC for Sky News and Five respectively and Julie Etchingham ditching Sky for ITV, its musical chairs in the world of news presenting. And why not? Stick around too long at one station and you could be unceremoniously booted off like Moira Stewart. Now ITV’s Mark Austin might be looking to make a career switch after learning of Sir Trev’s plans to anchor a re-vamped News at Ten.

The 48-year old was reported to be furious with the overhaul to the network’s news coverage and fears that he will be side-lined as a result. A source revealed: “Mark was fuming. He is smarting at what he feels are plans to sideline him.” This meant a busy weekend for his agent, who spent the time trying to improve on his client’s £300,000 a year deal at the station. ITV have shown public support for Austin, with a spokesperson commenting: “Mark’s always been part of the plans for ITV news. He’s a great presenter.” But will it be enough to hold on to him?
